Overview
HPE's Industrial Placement programme offers students a year of full-time work experience within their teams. As a Cloud Engineering intern, you would be involved in the design, development, and maintenance of cloud-based solutions, gaining practical experience with modern cloud technologies and development methodologies. This programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic study and professional engineering practice.
Spun off from the former Hewlett Packard Company in 2015, HPE focuses on areas such as hybrid cloud, data analytics, and intelligent edge computing.
Opens: 28 Sep 2025; Closes: 27 Jan 2026
This is a full-time, 12-month industrial placement, typically running from July/August to July/August of the following year. It is based at an HPE office in the UK. Exact working hours are standard office hours, typically 35-40 hours per week.
HPE industrial placements are typically paid roles, offering a competitive salary for the duration of the placement.
Students are usually eligible if they are currently pursuing a bachelor's degree requiring a sandwich year or industrial placement. A strong academic record in a relevant STEM field (Computer Science, Software Engineering, etc.) is generally expected, along with an entitlement to work in the UK for the entire placement duration.
The application process usually involves an online application form, including a CV and potentially a cover letter. This is often followed by online assessments (aptitude tests), video interviews, and finally an assessment centre or final interview stage.
HPE is a well-known global technology company, and their industrial placement programmes are generally competitive, attracting a large volume of applicants for a limited number of positions.
Completing an industrial placement at a globally recognised technology company like HPE provides invaluable industry experience, enhances a student's CV significantly, and offers excellent networking opportunities. It demonstrates practical application of academic knowledge and secures a competitive edge for future graduate roles.
